Secure Employment: Graduates of this program often find work
with BC Ambulance Service, private ambulance companies, fire
departments, law enforcement agencies, industrial workplaces,
and ski patrol or rescue teams.
Path to Licensing: This course is a direct pathway to licensing
through the Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board
(EMALB). Upon successful completion, you can apply for
licensing exams to become an Emergency Medical Responder.
Further Your Education: Many students use this course as a
stepping stone to further studies in healthcare, including Primary
Care Paramedic (PCP), Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), or
nursing programs.
Meet Industry Standards: This course meets the Paramedic
Association of Canada’s National Occupational Competency
Basic Life Support is a high-performance approach to Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) in a
professional medical responder environment or a standalone skill set
that can be transferred to work with any high-performance team
performing CPR in a clinical setting.
Your Basic Life Support certification includes BLS protocols, and
remains valid for 1 year. There is a separate Airway Management and
Oxygen Therapy certificate that can also be added onto your ticket and
those will be valid for 3 years.
If you require a valid BLS certificate for your job, you will need to
complete a standalone BLS Recertification course yearly.
The initial BLS Standalone course is 4hrs in duration
The recertification BLS course is 2.5hrs in duration
The Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy addition to the BLS course is
5hrs total.
